We have been on board for the past two years, the event brings over 1,000 Year 9 students together with business leaders and careers advisers to give them the chance to get to grips with what they need to do to kick start their working life.
Everything from a crime scene to a vehicle repair garage and a catering kitchen are on show in a 25,000q ft warehouse on one of the Borough’s most successful business parks, giving the students the opportunity to try their hand at just some of the skills they might need to secure their ideal job.
The event introduces them to industries and roles they’d never even considered and gives them a chance to ask local businesses and public sector leaders how they got to where they are today.
The public and private sectors work together to deliver the annual one-day event.
We were delighted to be approached to be a part of this fantastic event and have been fortunate enough to be members of the steering group alongside a great team that meet up regularly and eat copious amounts of biscuits whilst organising the annual event.
This year we (Rochdale Skills Event) have been nominated for a Skills For Business Award and the award ceremony will take place on Wednesday 1st July at The Point, Lancashire County Cricket Club so to say we are delighted is probably an understatement!
So, we’re having a night off from #RochdaleHour on Wednesday 1st July. We’re putting our glad rags on, practicing our loser face (just in case) and having a well deserved glass of bubbly to celebrate being nominated for such an amazing award and who knows if we win we might even have a little dance!
We’ll be sure to keep you posted just follow @RochdaleSkills for more details.
There are a few other locals up for an award too so we’d like to wish; Northern Employment, Farrel Ltd, Holroyds, F Parkinsons, James Nuttall Transport, TBD, Yearsleys & Richard Whittaker the best of luck and we’ll see you all on the 1st!
